SHANE OBSCURE CHAPTER 21

 21.

One drowsy, sober weekend night, Dusk, Marc, David and myself sat in the Cavern, facing the television. The television wasn't turned on. We all sat, facing the screen, seeing ourselves in the reflection, in pale silence, till Marc spoke.

   "Something's missing," he said forlornly.

"I kind of know what you mean," Dusk replied plainly.

"Where's Ed tonight?" Marc asked David, as if he'd know. David simply shrugged his shoulders, his shoulders saying: "I don't know."

"He's at work, like always," Sean said.

   "What about Sissy?"

   “Who cares?" replied Dusk.

Marc sighed. "Something's missing," he repeated.

"Well it could be that Cudd's gone," Sean smirked.

Marc sighed again, only louder and paler. "Maybe. Who knows?"

   We sat and sat.

An hour past - then another.

And the entire time, the dog, Grape, outside, lying near the screen door, was groaning as he licked, and sometimes bit, fleas from his ass.
